Dog Day-Care Franchise

Make your Doggy Day-Care business a profitable reality with our helping hand

Doggy day-care – what is it?

Doggy day-care can best be defined as short-term, day-time care for dogs in bespoke premises. Think child-care, creche and a theme park all rolled into one. The services cover play, exercise, socialisation, interactive games, training, agility, grooming and spa treatments to name just a few.

Many facilities are wired with live streaming webcams so that owners can log-in to see their dogs throughout the day.

Some care providers also provide a fleet of doggy vehicles, transporting pets to and from homes at the start and close of play.
A few day-care centres have been successful in getting a 2nd licence to enable overnight ‘boarding’ as distinct to ‘kennels’.
Above all, an operator needs to provide a clean and safe environment for the dogs in their care and for the people taking care of them.

A MyWaggyTails doggy day-care franchise raises the bar on a great day out for deserving fur babies.

Types of doggy day-care

Doggy day-care premises are either:

  • A rural setting close to major pockets of population, ranging from 1-25 acres; or
  • A sub-urban industrial unit with a secure external exercise area that doesn’t raise problems for neighbours with any barking, with complementary outdoor space totalling 7,500-15,000 sqft.

Day-Care centres are most commonly licensed for 25-50 dogs and are of increasing popularity.

It is a criminal offence to provide day-care to dogs for monetary gain without a licence.

Whether an outdoor or indoor centre, a MyWaggyTails Doggy Day-Care centre should provide stimulation, interaction, play time, nap time and loads of TLC that our 4-legged friends need to keep them happy and healthy.

One day-care centre will not be the same as the next. A MyWaggyTails franchise partner will be known for professionalism, high standards and a well-trained caring team. Always demonstrating that personal touch, your hands-on approach will ensure your business stands out as the ‘go-to’ place for doggies within the local community you serve, as well as reassurance that you’re staffed by well trained, friendly professionals.

A centre’s offering will include everything a furry family member requires from 5-star doggy daycare – a super playground, as well as quiet zones for the less boisterous, stimulation, socialisation, informal agility and behavioural training, as well as canine first aid.

A centre can generate additional revenue opportunities offering retail, spa services and grooming as well as training classes as we strive to ensure every pet is always safe and happy. For the right partner and location, we are very supportive partners providing a wide range of services and support.

Some local authroities are now allowing providers to apply for two licenses so overnight boarding can also be carried out at the same premises.

Creating and growing your dog-care business

Doggy day care businesses are increasing in popularity as awareness grows of the benefits they bring to our pets and the range of services they offer.

Some doggy daycares also offer overnight or weekend boarding services, or an emergency option for boarding if an owner is unexpectedly delayed.

MyWaggyTails helps you grow your own successful dog businesses. Our franchise offering presents a very rewarding opportunity for pet lovers and business-minded folk to combine two of their pleasures.

How to get started

You can do it all yourself. But we think there’s a better way, let us help you.

MyWaggyTails helps you plan, start, grow and profit when establishing a professional dog business.

When you’re ready to dive into the numbers on Doggy Day-Care or maybe you want an exploratory conversation…

What is a franchise?

Franchising is a business model. It provides an opportunity that allows the franchisee (possibly you) to start your own business by buying a license and legally using someone else’s (the franchisor’s) brand, expertise, marketing ideas, and processes. Most McDonalds and Subway branches are franchises.

Our franchises include:

  • Dog walking, pet sitting and home visits
  • Doggy day-care
  • Home boarding

A MyWaggyTails day care franchise business is fully insured and built around high standards and best practice but we still leave room for flexibility and your personal touch.

Mitch Howey

Mitch Howey

MyWaggyTails Chinnor

Shortly after Randle left the Royal Navy he was lucky enough to get a job working for Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group. A few years later, his office phone rang. He answeredå and a voice said, ‘Hi Randle, it’s Richard. You know something about boats don’t you?’ He replied, ‘I’m sorry, who is this? The voice politely answered, ‘Richard, Richard Branson. Look, I’ve been offered a paddle-steamer for sale, you know, for events, parties and things. Will you go and have a look at it, it’s in a dry-dock somewhere, find out if it goes and everything, see whether I should buy it and if I do, how it all works.’ A crazy time working with Sir Richard followed.

Then fast forward a career leading multiple-award winning marketing and events agencies, including several start-ups, and employing over 200 personnel working with great brands like Microsoft, Vodafone, Virgin Media, Peugeot and Deloitte to name but a few.

Randle is also a former Chairman of the Institute of Promotional Marketing. He has an honorary doctorate in education from Leeds Beckett University and he won a Guinness World Record for Vodafone, producing the largest silver service ball for 11,500 people. An eclectic cv we know.

One day his sister, Mitch asked for help with her dog-care business. It was going ok but after 5 months operating, business was slow. Randle overhauled her brand, website, messaging, promotion, digital marketing and operational processes. 18 months later she begged him to stop promoting her business as she couldn’t cope with any more customers or enquiries. Cheekily she asked if Randle would first prepare her for the new licensing regulations.

Four months later, Mitch’s dog-care business was audited by her local authority, rated 5 stars and granted a home boarding license for 10 dogs. More importantly, she has a raft of 5-star customer reviews on Google, Facebook and Yell.

Building on that success, Randle decided to bottle up and share what they both know, to help others start or grow their own dog businesses, provide a range of services, quietly powered by MyWaggyTails Business. So, here we are…

Why work with MyWaggyTails?

Not everybody feels they have the necessary training, skills or experience to go it alone. Nor sufficient grasp of the various laws and regulations with which to comply, in order to be licensed by your local authority and avoid a potential criminal record for animal welfare transgressions.

But if you have a passion for dogs and believe you can make your dog business a success, working with MyWaggyTails reduces the risks of wasting both your money and time doing the wrong things, by benefitting from our experience, creativity and success. We help provide you peace of mind. And we give you a pathway to keep growing your dog business.

We offer you a high earnings potential with low set-up costs and reduced risks by basing your business on an already successful and proven business model with the active support of the principals.

Who are MyWaggyTails looking for?’

No one person is the same as the next. We’re looking for franchise partners who are likely to exhibit the following:-

  • A love, passion and an understanding for dogs
  • Someone for whom running their own business appeals
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A full driving licence is handy
  • Sociable, outgoing and empathetic
  • Highly motivated, hard-working, organised and up for some more learning
  • A good level of fitness
  • Business experience is advantageous, but it is not essential.
  • The drive and determination to make your business succeed even on a dark, wet, cold winter’s morning.
  • People with the financial resources or access to funds, for the initial investment but most importantly, to sustain you through getting your business up and running.
  • Perhaps a site already is a great place to be.
  • Someone looking for an exciting new challenge and life chapter.

If you’re in need of experience in handling dogs, the Kennel Club advise that you should consider volunteering at your local kennels or rescue centre. They’ll often house a good range of dogs of various sizes, age and temperament, so you’ll be fit to face whatever comes your way.
