Dog walking, pet sitting and home visits franchise

Dog walking and getting fit – two wins together

Introduction to professional dog walking

Anyone can become a dog walker. Currently there is no licensing requirement. In fact, you don’t even need qualifications or insurance to make money from dog walking. But expect all that to change following the recent introduction of new animal welfare regulations. If you provide home boarding or day care for dogs in exchange for financial gain, you have to be licensed or you are committing a criminal offence. Increasingly, a number of local authorities are also introducing regulations that require professional dog walkers to be licensed too.

So if you’re thinking of setting up a dog walking business, it’s probably a good idea to do it right from the beginning, ready for when the laws change for dog walkers.

What can you earn?

You can earn between £20-£35k+/ year, running a dog walking business. Or another way to think about it is, getting paid £60/hour just to get fit, because that’s what you do looking after dogs. And it’s heaps more fun than the gym.

And providing dog walking is just one piece of the jigsaw. Home visits and pet sitting are also an important and rewarding part of your service offering. By all means set up your own dog walking business, but make sure you do it properly. And MyWaggyTails can help you.
