The Dog Business
Are you fit to play?
If you’re given to exercising on the sofa you will struggle with this vocation.
Being in relatively good health is important. Unquestionably you will get fitter working in the dog business. But then lots of people pay to get fit. Here you could be earning £60/hour to get fit. Who’s the smart one? And the mental gymnastics are important too. From paperwork and admin, to dog walking 5 hyper dogs on an early morning, dark, wet, windy, freezing January, to customer meet and greets, to an emergency trip to the vets, to answering that enquiry call from a potential new customer.
Keeping yourself in good health helps ensure reliability. If you are often sick, overworked, or too tired to function, you are not giving your clients or their pets the best possible care, and it will quickly be evident.
The dogs in your care will look forward to seeing you, you’re part of their pack and they will immediately know when you’re not on your ‘A’ game, interacting on their walk, play time, or socialisation.
Being fit for purpose is a pre-requisite of most jobs, but no more so that when there’s a key dependency.
